You might need to start, or boot, your computer using the Windows 7 installation disc or a USB flash drive if you want to:

• Install or reinstall Windows 7. For detailed instructions on installing Windows 7, see Installing and reinstalling Windows 7. For information about downloading Windows 7, and then creating a USB flash drive to install Windows 7, go to Installing Windows 7 on a netbook on the Windows website.
• Recover Windows 7 from a serious error. If your computer won't start Windows at all, you can access Startup Repair and other tools in the System Recovery Options menu from the Windows 7 installation disc or USB flash drive. These tools can help you get Windows 7 running again. For more information, see Startup Repair: frequently asked questions and What are the system recovery options in Windows 7?

• If you use a Tablet PC or other computer with a touchscreen, you might need to attach a keyboard and mouse in order to use Startup Repair and other tools in the System Recovery Options menu.

To start Windows 7 from an installation disc or USB flash drive

1. Turn on your computer, insert the Windows 7 installation disc or USB flash drive, and then turn off your computer.
2. Restart your computer.
3. Press any key when prompted to do so, and then follow any instructions that appear.
4. When the Install Windows page appears, click Install now to begin the installation process or click Repair your computer to access system recovery options.
5. Follow the instructions.

General disclaimer: backup all files before installing Windows.
Insert your Windows 7 DVD/USB and boot from it. (To boot from anything, you have to press a certain key as soon as your computer starts to access the boot menu. This key is usually displayed on the screen when the computer starts. If not, google for "<your PC manufacturer/model> boot menu key".)

Select your language, time & currency format, keyboard or input method and click Next.

Click Install now.

Check I accept the license terms and click Next.

Click Upgrade if you already have a previous Windows version and want to upgrade it or Custom if you don't have a previous Windows version or want to install a fresh copy of Windows 7.

(Skip this step if you chose Upgrade and have only one partition) Select the drive where you want to install Windows 7 and click Next. If you want to make any partitions, click Drive options (advanced), make the partitions and then click Next.

The setup will now start installing Windows 7. The first step, Copying Windows files will complete instantly.

The second step will take the most time.


The third and fourth step will also complete instantly like the first step.


After that it will automatically restart after 15 seconds and continue the setup. You can also click Restart now to restart without any delays.



After restarting for the first time, it will continue the setup. This is the last step so it will take the most time than the previous steps.

It will now automatically restart again and continue the setup. You can click Restart now to restart without any delays.




Type your desired user name in the text-box and click Next. It will automatically fill up the computer name.

If you want to set a password, type it in the text-boxes and click Next.

Type your product key in the text-box and click Next. You can also skip this step and simply click Next if you want to type the product key later. Windows will run only for 30 days if you do that.

Select your desired option for Windows Updates.

Select your time and click Next.

If you are connected to any network, it will ask you to set the network's location.






And there you have Windows 7 installed!
